Alexander Mittag.
Born and raised in Delmenhorst in 1987, an administrative civil servant. A member of the Delmenhorst city council since 2016 and chair of the SPD council group – on 25 October 2025 he was unanimously nominated as the SPD's candidate for Lord Mayor.
He also chairs the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Delmenhorst and works for the State of Lower Saxony. His stated priorities range from the economy through affordable housing to good schools.

Are you eligible to vote?
You may vote if you are at least 16 years old, hold German or another EU citizenship, and have been registered with your main residence in Delmenhorst for at least three months.

Postal vote or polling station

Who is allowed to vote?
You are eligible to vote if, on election day, you are at least 16 years old, hold German or another EU citizenship, have been registered as resident in Delmenhorst for at least three months and are entered in the electoral register.
How is the Lord Mayor elected?
You have one vote. Whoever receives more than half of the valid votes is elected. If no one reaches that, a run-off between the two best-placed candidates is held about two weeks later (expected on 27 September 2026).
Can I vote by post?
Yes. You can apply for a postal vote online, in writing or in person at the town hall – as soon as your polling card has arrived. You'll find the exact deadlines from the City of Delmenhorst.
What do I need to bring to the polling station?
Ideally your polling card and an ID card or passport. You can also vote without the notification – your ID is enough.
